Internship Experience

Northrop Grumman‍ ‍

Mechanical Ground System Engineer Redondo Beach, CA June 2026– August 2026

Software

  • CATIA V5: MGSE fixture design and modeling

  • FEMAP: structural analysis on satellite integration fixtures

  • GD&T (ASME Y14.5): dimensioning and tolerancing for manufacturability

Aerospace Application

  • Satellite bus MGSE fixtures for acoustic, vibration, and thermal test campaigns

  • Bolted joint and barbell plate hardware sizing to NASA-STD-5020 margin-of-safety requirements

  • Integration fixtures qualified for 105 kg hardware loads across 35+ vehicle integrations

Principles Practiced

  • Von Mises stress: combined stress states in bolted joint and fixture hardware

  • Cantilever beam design: fixture arm and support structure loading under 1.5g conditions

  • Torsion: preload and torque-tension calculations in bolted joint sizing

  • Stress and strain: margin-of-safety hand calculations against NASA-STD-5020 requirements

● Owned the design and qualification of satellite bus MGSE fixtures in CATIA V5 for acoustic, vibration, and thermal test campaigns, performing hand calculations to size 20+ bolted joints and barbell plate hardware to NASA-STD-5020 margin-ofsafety requirements under 1.5 g loading while driving hardware interface closure with test engineering

● Led the design, FEMAP analysis, procurement, manufacturing, assembly, and test documentation of satellite integration fixtures for 105 kg hardware loads, performing hand calculations and developing GD&T drawings in accordance with Northrop Grumman MGSE requirements to deliver 20+ fixtures deployed across 35+ vehicle integrations
